Garmin Nuvi 670 Review & Best Prices

Read Reviews and get help finding the cheapest and lowest price!

compare garmin nuvi 250 The Garmin Nuvi 250 is just about as basic as the Nuvi series gets. It does not contain Europe maps, Bluetooth, mp3 playback, an integrated traffic receiver, or even the widescreen. All of which the Nuvi 670 has. It does come with your basic travel tools but the only advantage that the 250 has over the 670 is its price which is extremely lower than that of the 670.

This garmin nuvi 670 video review showcases the sleek style of the unit. The widescreen almost covers the entire front of the device! The Nuvi 670 is extremely smart with its auto complete and route recalculation so you don’t have to make U-turns if you stray away from the path.

As you can tell from the guy holding the Nuvi 670 and giving you all the angles on it’s size and shape, the Nuvi670 has a very sleek and lightweight design. Its small size makes it easy to put in your pocket or purse even while it’s in the leather carrying case. This leaves you no excuses for leaving the unit in your car for thieves to steal no matter how fast you’ll be coming back. The antenna flips up and down to make it less bulky and harder to break. Under the antenna is the spot to clip it to your suction mount. It’s nice having it covered so it can’t get dirty and lose its clipping strength.

I’ve been using the Nuvi 670 for a few months now and it’s absolutely wonderful. It’s my first GPS I’ve owned but I’ve used a lot of built-in and rental car ones. I love that the FM transmitter can get you traffic information and you can plan your route around traffic. The reception is very good and the map locks in quick at startup. The FM receiver can play the voice through your car audio so the directions are easier to understand. The menus are intuitive and there are many options to customize how it chooses your route. The point of interest database seems a little old in some areas but I have yet to try to update it online. I don’t really like how the traffic information is displayed but I guess it’s a new feature that they are still incorporating.

I’m probably considered a “soccer mom”. I’m a very smart person but I’ll be honest I’m not the most technologically savvy person and this device is very user friendly. I bought the Garmin Nuvi 670, as an upgrade to our current TOMTOM 910. It’s much easier to carry and attach to the windshield compared to the TOMTOM 910. My Garmin Nuvi only had to connect to my phone with the Bluetooth once. The TOMTOM continually reset. Being a soccer mom this device has probably saved me countless hours by not having to rely on a 10 year old to give me directions to their house after practice!

After using the Nuvi 670 for a few months I will have to say that it is wonderful. This is the only driving GPS I’ve owned but I’ve used numerous built-in ones and rental car ones. There is much to like about it. The traffic option is good but quality varies by location. The map does appear to be just a bit behind when you’re driving too. I have not had the opportunity to use it Europe, just in the US.

Would I buy it again? YES!
Here’s a quick list of the Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Reception from satellite is very good and is acquired quickly
  • FM traffic information is useful
  • Very easy to use intuitive interface
  • Directions spot on
  • Voice directions loud and clear (although some mispronunciations)
  • Big clear display
  • Very compact for the amount of functionality it provides and the screen size. It fit right in my pocket. I wanted something with a large screen and if you don’t need the additional functionality and looking for more portability go with the 370 series. I wanted the extras since I’m planning Europe trips so I’m fine with the extra girth.
  • Bluetooth functionality works great with my slvr l7.
  • It’s good that they made their connectivity using mini USB rather than some proprietary plug.

Cons

This is an outstanding GPS, easy to use, very portable and amazingly accurate.

There’s a lot to like about the Garmin Nuvi 670. The number of languages and voices is surprising. Pronunciation of street names in English while in France was rather funny but it was possible to switch it to French and leave English words and directions on the screen so it sounded right but I could still see what it meant in English. So for directions like “take the second exit in the roundabout” that the French voice said as “prend le deuxiem sortie au rond point” I could still understand. Some streets in Sweden the English voice didn’t even try to pronounce. It just spelled them.

The unit did take some getting used to for me. Maybe it was just me but some of the settings weren’t obvious. I read in another review about it being difficult to change the settings for bike, car, truck, pedestrian, off road, etc. That took about three presses of a button, pretty simple I think. I would hate how the Tom Tom asks every time how you want to get there. I like I can set it and forget it because it mostly stays in the car for driving around the city.

The Nüvi 670 was a great travel companion for me. On my latest trip to England I used the suction cup and cigarette lighter adapter to put it in my rental car. It was priceless in getting me from point to point. I had a tough enough time driving on the wrong side of the road and getting around the roundabouts. The pedestrian mode was very useful in helping me get oriented after I came up from the subways. It’s a nice feature they added having the pedestrian mode ignore illegal turns and one-ways. The Bluetooth works great with my Moto RAZR and the MP3 player does the job. I like the picture viewer for viewing a small number of pictures on the go. For larger numbers of images they really need a better way to navigate through them. It was also a little slow when loading some larger sized images with higher pixel counts from my camera, but it really isn’t a picture viewer, it’s a GPS, so what can you really expect. It’s good enough to show a few family snapshots to friends, but you might want to save looking through pictures on a 2MB SD card for another method. I like the simple USB interface to my Mac. It makes it easy to get files on and off the Nüvi.

This is the best GPS I’ve used that is on the market by far. I’ve used the Garmin 3600 iQue and the Tom Tom and this is way better. It was easy to use and incredibly bright touch screen that it works like a charm. I also like the bluetooth hands free compatibility with my cell phone when I’m on the road. I’ve heard some people have had problems with answering calls but it worked fine for me.

I had an older GPS unit that was stolen and I decided to buy the nuvi 670 as a replacement. All I can say is that I’m happy the last one was stolen. There is almost no comparison between the two. The menus are intuitive and easy to navigate, the instruction are clear, the Bluetooth works flawlessly, the traffic alerts are spot on and the GPS acquires super fast on start-up. This is by far the best unit out there.

Just took my new garmin 670 Nuvi to Italy. I loved it for driving around. Option for selecting truck keeps you off the smaller streets, which is nice because there are some very small windy roads in the mountains and in cities. You can also insert a waypoint to avoid or bypass certain areas. The only thing with this was I could only insert one waypoint which was a bit of a pain if there was a few places I wanted to visit on my way from place to place.
